You will find shopping in Seychelles to be an interesting experience. It can be difficult to find authentic, locally made products as most shops carry imported goods often branded as Seychelles' products. For authentic shopping we suggest:
Lily Moon Health & Gift Shop
Located right here at The Station estate is the oldest natural health & gift shop in Seychelles. Lily Moon is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 4pm.
Lily Moon carries a comprehensive range of the Nourished by NatureTM skincare products formulated by Homeopaths and Energy Healers. These nurturing skincare essentials are made right here at The Station by the Seychelles' most respected natural product manufacturer. Produced for exclusive 5+ star hotels in Seychelles, they are also exported to some of the most discerning homes abroad.
You can actually get to see a glimpse of the production right here.
Lily Moon offers a Homeopathic service and carries an extensive range of Homeopathic remedies to ensure your stay in Seychelles is optimized.
Bazar Labrin market at Beau Vallon opens from 4:30pm to 8pm every Wednesday. This is a popular bazaar with an authentic Creole atmosphere. For guests wishing to savor local delicacies or purchase local art and craft, we would suggest getting there before by 5:30pm so as to enjoy the magnificent sunset on Beau Vallon Beach.
The Craft Village
Domaine de Val des Pres highlights Creole architecture, arts and craft. We recommend a stop-in here when exploring the eastern side of Mahe. The 'Gran Kaz' Plantation House was built around 1870. There are 12 craft workshops that host local arts and crafts made from the husk of coconuts and local wood. For nautical enthusiasts, a workshop where high quality ship models are hand-crafted is well worth a visit.
Jardin Du Roi
Further down from the Craft Village, located 2km up in the hills above Anse Royale, this lush spice garden owes its existence to Pierre Poivre, the French spice entrepreneur. There is a self-guided walk around the estate and a small museum in the planter's house. A fee is charged. The cafe-restaurant is reasonable and homemade jams, marmalade and spices are available at the gift shop.
Sir Selwyn Clarke Market
For a real experience, we recommend you take a bus from outside The Station directly to the market. This is the colorful, bustling centre of Victoria where you'll see Seychellois going about their daily lives. It is where fishermen display their catch, local farmers showcase their produce and traders offer local spices for taking home. There are small shops above and around the market where you can sometimes find authentic craft. Best visited during the week between 9am and noon or early Saturday morning (7am).
Kenwyn House & Kreolor
For the more discerning shopper, not to be missed is a visit to Kenwyn House, an authentic French Colonial House where a wide range of fine quality, locally crafted jewelry can be found. Kreolor crafts unique jewelry and other artifacts made in a traditional way using local materials.
Seychelles offers a stunning landscape backdrop for artists and sculptors and the art scene here is vibrant in every way. There are too many exceptional individuals to mention here but it would certainly be worth seeking out the studios and galleries during your stay!
